Russ Horner

Manager, Community Engagement

Russ grew up in Maple, Ontario. As a professional mascot for more than 25 years, Russ brings not only his energetic spirit to the Relay team, but also a wealth of experience and knowledge from the many sports and community groups he has worked with. Russ owned two marketing support service companies for almost 25 years, road managed several national promotional tours, lead community programming for a 60-store retail chain, worked with national festivals, and stage managed numerous live shows. Most recently, Russ was Team Lead, Community Engagement for VANOC overseeing several community initiatives and events including the mascot program for the 2010 Olympic Games. Now, as Manager of Community Engagement, Russ works closely with communities, stakeholders, accessibility groups and schools focusing on overall management of the 25th Anniversary relay's community engagement program. Russ is passionate about really getting to know people and the communities they live in. Living in Vancouver and enjoying the west coast, Russ likes to cycle, hike, play tennis and golf, cook (especially grilling on his downtown harbour houseboat) and enjoys working with youth having recently volunteered at Vancouver's Gordon House Youth S.E.A.R.C.H Program.
